Sean Nesselrode Moncada
Volunteer Tech Assistant
Sean Nesselrode Moncada (he/him) manages the audiovisual tech for St. Martin’s, running the YouTube livestream and coordinating the audio for services, concerts, and events held in the sanctuary. He also occasionally contributes tech support for forums and additional activities held in the Parish House.
When not at St. Martin’s, he is an historian of art, architecture, and visual culture of the Americas. He is Associate Professor of Theory and History of Art and Design at Rhode Island School of Design, where he offers classes on a variety of subjects including Latinx art and identity, Caribbean visual cultures, the avant-garde, and modernism and ecology. He is the author of Refined Material: Petroculture and Modernity in Venezuela (University of California Press, 2023) and will spend his sabbatical at work on a critical biography of the Venezuelan artist, printmaker, and archaeologist Maruja Rolando.
Sean holds a BA in Art History and English Literature from Swarthmore College, right here in Philadelphia; and an MA and PhD in Art History and Archaeology from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University.
A proud tejano-venezolano, Sean has been a member of the larger St. Martin’s community since 2021, when he arrived with his husband Tyrone Whiting. He will happily curate a playlist for any mood.
