As Judaism and Christianity anticipate spring’s Holy Seasons, both traditions focus on God’s liberating actions recorded in Scripture. Both teach that God continues to be a liberating force in the world today. Lent and Holy Week observances place more emphasis on individuals’ needs for Divine rescue from bondage to sin, while Passover observances place more emphasis on the needs of communities for liberation. We will view and discuss works of art that that illustrate the Biblical stories remembered during Passover and Holy Week. And we will view and discuss works of art that call attention to contemporary cries for liberation among individuals and communities.
Discussion Question: Is Chagall’s White Crucifixion a bridge or barrier to Jewish / Christian relations?
