Parents Connecting offers support

October 16, 2020
The upcoming Parents Connecting workshop will be our fourth — and the third virtual one. We have averaged around 8 participants each time, a group which includes single parents, couples, former parents, and grandparents. This blend of ‘ages and stages’ has encouraged a warm and active listening environment where we’ve all felt supported to share our questions, stories, triumphs, and struggles. Following our motto of “No fixing, no saving, no advising, no setting each other straight,” we try to hear what each is saying, ask clarifying questions, and/or offer supportive comments. Whether one is a new parent or a very experienced grandparent, we all are working hard to make the best choices with our young charges in the face of a world that is changing rapidly.
Our format is simple and straightforward. We begin by introducing ourselves, share some readings chosen by the planners, reflect on these individually and then (in smaller breakout groups if need be) each of us has time to share something from our recent parenting experience that we feel best fits the theme of the day. Supportive feedback or questions often help us see new dimensions or angles on what we have shared.
We have found that the Zoom format can work well, although, like most citizens of Earth in 2020, we also long to get back to the in-person meetings that allow a little extra warmth to flow from one to the other. Please come join us if you like, all are welcome.
