MUSIC NOTES: Epiphany, Lent, & Easter!
Happy New Year to you all!
Please join me in thanking our wonderful musicians for all their fabulous work over the Advent & Christmas Season! A huge thank you to all our volunteer singers, along with congratulations to our Section Leaders, Gillian, Marisa, Aaron, and Michael, who outdid themselves with some excellent work and solos. Thank you to Connie for being an amazing coordinator and librarian as always! Thanks to Justina Barrett and Barbara Wentz for helping to lead the Pageant so fabulously, and to Brooke and Julia for sharing so much excellent music with us! And, of course, congratulations to all our pageant participants! The Fairmount String Quartet added so much to both our Carol Sing and the Bishop’s visit and I am very grateful to them. Great job! A special mention for Sean for his backstage work including rescuing the tech/wifi on Christmas Eve!
There is much to look forward to this year at St. Martin’s, particularly in our Music & Arts Ministries!
This Sunday, January 7 at 5 p.m., we welcome The Choir of Christ Church Philadelphia, and their Director of Music Parker Kitterman, to join our own choir for a service of Choral Evensong for the Feast of the Epiphany. With music by Stanford, Weaver, Erik Meyer (St. Martin's former Director of Music), and more; this Evensong will be a beautiful service of scripture and music led by the combined choirs of St. Martin’s and Christ Church.
I hope that you we will join us for the Academy of Vocal Arts’ return to St. Martin’s on Saturday January 13th at 3 pm for their Winter Recital. The AVA’s excellent students will perform Schubert’s renowned and intense song cycle, Wintereisse.
In Febuary, we will recognise Black History Month with special services, performances and art displays celebrating music and art by unrepresented populations in our community and nation.
Women’s History Month is celebrated throughout March, and what better way to celebrate and recognize female identifying creators than by joining our Resident Ensemble the Fairmount String Quartet in a concert of works by and for women on Sunday March 3 at 3 p.m.
There are so much more exciting music & arts programming coming up at St. Martin’s, including our Lenten Call for Art, Stations of the Cross services, Holy Week and Easter. And this is just a snippet of things to come before March 31!
I hope you will join us in celebrating Music & the Arts in our worship services and special events. Please do support our ministries by donating to the Music Fund by clicking here to ensure we can continue our programming, particularly in this time of prolonged transition. Every dollar helps and your donation will be recognised and greatly appreciated.
