Music Director, Erik Meyer's Next Path
September 26, 2019
Dear Members of St. Martin’s,
I am writing to share the sad news that Erik Meyer, our beloved Music Director, has asked to resign from his position. His last Sunday as our Organist and Choirmaster will be January 5, 2020. In his resignation letter, Erik says that he wants to move on to a part-time position so he can devote more time to composition and to his family. While Erik’s departure is a tremendous loss for St. Martin’s, I know that we all want to support him in his courageous decision to move on to the next stage of his ministry.
During the next three months we will organize a committee to plan a wonderful celebration for Erik and his family, giving thanks for the many gifts they have shared with this community. We will also begin to collect the traditional purse - a monetary gift - for Erik. You may send checks made out to the church, noting in the memo line, “Purse for Erik Meyer.” Due to IRS rules we cannot count these donations as charitable, tax-exempt contributions.
We will also organize a search committee to begin the process of calling our next Music Director. This process will include opportunities for the parish community to give input into the direction of our music ministry and may take six to eight months. An interim Music Director will be hired to cover the gap between Erik’s departure and the arrival of our new musician. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me at 215.247.7466 x101 or [email protected]
Please support the whole Meyer family with your prayers and love during this time of transition, and pray as well for the Holy Spirit to guide the leadership of the parish into our next steps.
The Rev. Jarrett Kerbel
