Mark and Movies

A Virtual Bible Study with the Rev. Hal Taussig
Wednesday evenings in January 2021 from 7-8:30 p.m. on Zoom
A four-week introduction to the Year B Gospel readings of the Gospel of Mark will combine viewing three movies, one graphic novel, and an overview of this particular gospel. Wednesday night Zoom sessions will feature study of the Gospel of Mark which is the primary Gospel reading for worship in 2021. Each Wednesday evening study of Mark will also rely on a select weekly movie to be viewed at home beforehand. The combination of lectionary readings in Mark and movies is meant to provide experience of stories of loss, trauma, healing, and repair in both the first and 21stcenturies, but not to suggest that movies are somehow hidden codes about Jesus.
In addition to what is listed for each week below, optional reading: Re-reading the Gospel of Mark Amidst Loss and Trauma, Kotrosits and Taussig, Palgrave Macmillan. Copies in church library during January for borrowing. Please call the office for information.
