Help Give a Boost to the Diaper Drive

It’s a cool, drizzly Friday morning. In the parking lot across from St. Martin’s, Refugee Resettlement Ministry members Sandy Lentz and Lanie Dilks stand by their cars, waiting alongside the Blessed Baking volunteers, who are also braving the elements. They don’t have long to wait. After about 15 minutes, parishioner Mary Baumberger rolls in, the trunk of her car stacked with boxes and bags of diapers, donated by her over-55 community.
It’s what Sandy and Lanie have been waiting for—a very generous donation of diapers, ultimately bound for St. Jude and the Nativity Episcopal Church on Germantown Pike in Lafayette Hill, where they’ll be distributed by the Rev. Yesenia Alejandro—known informally as “Mother Jessie”—to families in the area.
Since June 2021, the Refugee Resettlement Ministry has collected diapers and other essentials and delivered them to the Church of the Crucifixion in South Philadelphia, where Mother Jessie served until relatively recently. The church is undergoing renovations, so for now, Mother Jessie has expanded her outreach to St. Jude’s.
On some Friday mornings, there are plenty of diapers to distribute, but, says Sandy, that is not always the case. Refugee Resettlement Ministry is looking to boost donations across the board. Diapers are collected Friday mornings in the parking lot from 9 to 10 a.m. Please help with your generous donations of diapers of all sizes. You may also drop off diaper donations in the red wagons outside the Parish House any time during the week. They are collected and delivered each Friday.
