We have all seen the devastation resulting from the 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Turkey and Syria on Monday, February 6, 2023. As of February 14, 2023, approximately 33,000 have perished and millions have been left homeless. The St. Martin’s Vestry and Community Engagement Committee have received parishioners queries about how we can help, and we recommend donations to Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD). ERD has been in operation for over 80 years, responding to both disasters and the need for lasting change around the world. ERD excels in partnering with local, grassroots organizations with boots-on-the-ground. ERD’s partner in earthquake relief is Action by Churches Together (ACT Alliance).
- Distributed 40,000 winterization kids that include blankets, pajamas, and mattresses
- Provided over 230 buildings, including church halls, mosques, schools, and municipal buildings for child-friendly spaces, assisting in family reunification and providing emotional support for unaccompanied children.

ACT Alliance has a local network of partners with supplies and staff prepositioned throughout the region, which allowed for rapid mobilization in the midst of complex weather and transportation conditions.
