The letter below is from our Friends at Germantown Mennonite Church.
I know that many of our congregations are praying and working prayerfully towards a just and nonviolent outcome in this election season, while rooted in a deeper truth and greater vision. We at GMC are inviting other congregations to be praying especially for Carmela and her four children, who are nearing three years in sanctuary this December. Carmela is asking for your prayers and for your community to pray with their hands by calling your representatives weekly between now and the election to support her case.
Right now, two of her children have been approved for an expedited U-Visa review, which is her clearest path towards freedom. We need our representatives to pressure USCIS to approve the U-Visa and so quickly. And we believe that we can win.
Below is a script for calls, and here is a video of some GMCers demonstrating how to make calls.
Thank you for your prayers and for your labor for justice and freedom.
Pastor, Germantown Mennonite Church
Call (724) 390-6001 to contact these six elected officials (Rep. Evans, Rep. Scanlon, Rep. Dean, Rep. Fitzpatrick, Sen. Casey, Sen. Booker) and tell them to use their power to help FREE CARMELA & HER CHILDREN.
Sample Script: "My name is [your name], I am a citizen/constituent concerned about families living in Sanctuary in our area for way too long. I am calling today in support of Carmela and urge your office to use your full power to reach and pressure USCIS so they expedite and grant Fidel and Keyri Artillero's U-visa's now!"
