A week before her son Win graduated from high school, Mary Hopkins received the kind of phone call every parent dreads. A nurse from Atlantic City’s Shore Memorial Hospital called to inform her that Win had a broken neck, the result of a serious car accident. Mary attributes his eventual recovery in large part to an “angel,” an off duty medic who showed up at the scene of the accident and accompanied the family on their nightmarish journey.
