OPPORTUNITIES FOR CHILDREN
If your child has not previously attended St. Martin’s, please contact Cathy Cowling for registration information. If your child has been with us before, please be sure to provide any contact information that has changed since last year.
Infant and Toddler Child Care
Professional child care is provided on Sundays throughout the year. During the program year, the nursery is open from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The caregivers are Barbara Bredell and Cassandra Harris. Child care is located in the undercroft (basement) of the church; stairs are located at the northwest corner of the church.
Kindergarten and Grade 1 - Patchwork
Kindergartners and first graders participate in a hands-on curriculum as they explore God’s love for us as revealed through the stories of the Old Testament. The teachers for this class are: Barbara Baumgartner, Kim Leach, and Linda Schebel; assistants: Sally Cooke and Adrienne Sachs.
Grades 2 & 3 - Patchwork III
Building on last year’s foundation of Bible stories, participatory experience abounds as second and third graders
continue an exploration of the liturgical seasons and the sacraments. Seasons, symbols, and sacraments give us
insight into the life of Jesus and the experience of the Church and provide an opportunity to learn the basics.
The teachers for this class are Alan Good, David Schaaf, and Cynthia Wells.
Grades 4 & 5 - Poems, Prayers, and Promises
This curriculum is an exploration of Christian worship, especially the roots of The Book of Common Prayer. The first half of the year young people will have an opportunity to discover the Jewish roots of Christian worship in a hands-on fashion, culminating in a celebration of the Passover. The second half we will go back in time to the experiences of the earliest Christian Church for clues to our use of vestments, vessels, space, prayers, mission, and liturgy. The teachers for this class are Leigh Ashbrook, Hap Kessler, and Mike Skinner.
St Martin’s Chorister Training Program
St Martin-in-the-Fields has a strong tradition of choral music. Boys and girls, beginning in the second or third grades, who are interested in singing are invited to enter the Chorister Training Program. No audition is required, although children entering the program should be able to read. This children’s group, together with adult and teenagers, form the Parish Choir, which leads the music for the 9:00 Eucharist. Rehearsals are Wednesday afternoons, 4:00 - 5:30.
